Restaurante Chitré is a long-standing local restaurant over the water on Calle 1era in Bocas Town, Bocas del Toro. For many years it has been the place to go for traditional Panamanian food at budget prices, from early breakfast through dinner.
Breakfast is the highlight: Panamanian corn tortillas, hojaldres (fried bread), meats in savory sauces, fried breadfruit and eggs, served from 6:30am. Later in the day, lunch and dinner plates bring rice, beans, a choice of meats and fresh salad, plus sandwiches and burgers if you want something quick. The setting over the sea and the friendly, no-frills service make it a real local experience. It is one of the most authentic and affordable restaurants in Bocas del Toro.
Restaurante Chitré is open Mon to Sat from 6:30am to 10pm, and closed on Sundays. It is perfect for an early breakfast before a boat tour.
From Saigon Bay it is a short bike or taxi ride into town. For another local breakfast closer to us, try El Beso del Dragon, and read about island culture on our Bocas del Toro page.
